Disabled girls...the Children...

Author: Phillip Harrelson
2/23/2010 8:30:10 PM, I really don't know where to begin. Today was a day I doubt will ever escape my mind. We traveled into the epicenter of the earthquake & the destruction is indescribable.

I just can't wrap words around it! We talked to people who were pulled out of collapsed homes & others who's relatives never will be.

The home for disabled girls is a miracle in & of itself! It was full of young ladies in wheelchairs & on crutches and everyone made it out alive -- although some were trapped for hours (they were pulled out by prisoners who had just escaped the fallen prison). I was not permitted to take pictures of the girls who are now @ a refugee camp, but I must tell you it was powerful to see a large circle of girls in wheelchairs studying the Bible. Their faith has actually grown through this horrible event!

The refugee camp was not just housing the girls, but others displaced by the quake. There were tents spread out over a slap that once was the floor of a massive hospital that had collapsed. The tents were provided by a conglomerate of Calvary Chapels & Samaritin's Purse. During times like these there are no denominations (kind of like Heaven). Again, I was not allowed to take pictures out of respect of their privacy, but please imagine dozens of people in several circles studying the Bible, singing songs, praying & laughing! Yes- LAUGHING! Their resiliance is mind boggling! I am in awe.

So, just from those few experiences I have highlighted I am exhausted! Not from doing anything strenuous, but from the heaviness of the things I witnessed, yet I haven't even mentioned the kids! The beautiful Haitian children that I got to hug & play with. They have lived through something that no war veteran should have to see. Not just the dead bodies pulled into the streets by the tens of thousands, but for many of them the bodies of their parents & siblings. The scars will be man & there is no salve for dealing w/ this outside of Jesus. Please pray for the children of Haiti! I know I am rambling, but my limited brain is overloaded & my heart is broken! Thank you for reading this! Good night!
